Tech Review: T-Mobile Google Phone Android G1 Aka Doorstop

Okay I drank the tech Kool-Aid and I bought the T-Mobile Android G1 – aka the Google Phone.

Here’s my review:

I f–ing hate it. My T-Mobile MDA was a thousand times more superior and I am very disappointed. I also know that I was a f–ing moron for buying first-generation technology like this: I should have known better and waited six months and let some other sucker work as T-Mobile’s crash-test dummy.

The screen is too small

If you use Microsoft Outlook and/or that program’s calendar feature, you’ll need to move that data over to Google. The problem is that if you work for someone else, they may not like this idea very much. If your company is already working with Google mail and account features like Google calendar, then the transition to the G1 will be painless.

In order to fully use the G1 you need a Google account, which I already had and I love Google, so that part wasn’t a problem.

Because this G1 is brand new, there were a few other things I should have researched fully before hitting the Buy me screen at T-Mobile:

So far, it looks as if there is no integration between the G1 and the standard PDA – smart phone programs. I have a critical business program written for a smart phone or a PDA, and while it works under most every kind of PDA or smart phone, it doesn’t work with the G1. I’ll contact the developer of the program but I doubt he’s going to invest a whole lot of time and money into updating his program for the one moron on the planet (me) who decided to upgrade to a G1.

Yeah I’m not real thrilled.

  1. G1 is definately not a business PDA phone and barely a consumer one, but more to your point that its for public QA and a platform for developers to create the applications to build out Android.

  2. I agree. Rarely do I ever buy in to the latest and greatest technology, and I always do way too much research before buying any tech product. I did almost none this time and yep that was entirely my fault . I can still return the phone.

  3. My google search: g1 is a doorstop. I see I am not he only one. It locks frequently, is very warm -almost hot- to the touch after only a few minutes use and is a power hungry monster lasting only briefly when surfing the internet. The G3 is painfully slow.

Unique concept, but is not fit for purpose. I will not purchase another.

    “Too bad”
